(1898-1976) Робсон, ПолПевец и актер. Родился в индейско-негритянской семье. В годы учебы в Университете Ратджерса [ Rutgers University] выступал в составе Всеамериканской сборной футбольной команды [ All-America Team]. На третьем курсе за академические успехи был избран в члены братства "Фи-бета-каппа" [ Phi Beta Kappa]. В 1923 окончил Школу права Колумбийского университета [ Columbia University], но, отказался от карьеры юриста и решил использовать свои актерские данные и голос - мощный природный бас. В 1923 по приглашению Ю. О'Нила [ O'Neill, Eugene Gladstone] сыграл в его пьесе "Император Джонс" ["The Emperor Jones"]. В 1925 дебютировал в концертах как исполнитель спиричуэлс [ spiritual] и госпел [gospel]. В 1926 прославился исполнением популярного блюза "Река-батюшка" ["Ol' Man River"] в мюзикле Керна и Хаммерстайна "Гастрольный корабль" ["Show Boat"], сыграл ряд ролей в театре. В 1933 сыграл свою первую роль в кино в фильме "Император Джонс". Среди других фильмов с его участием - "Песнь свободы" ["Song of Freedom"] (1936), "Копи царя Соломона" ["King Solomon's Mines"] (1937), "Гордая долина" ["Proud Valley"] (1940), "Сказки Манхэттена" ["Tales of Manhattan"] (1942) и др. Пьеса "Отелло" ["Othello"] (1943) с его участием шла в США дольше всех других шекспировских пьес. В конце 1940-х ушел из кино. С 1950-х активно занимался политической деятельностью, придерживался коммунистических взглядов, тепло отзывался о Советском Союзе, выступал за гражданские права негров. Лауреат Международной премии мира (1950).
